My receiver just let out the magic blue smoke. Oh well. 25 years was a good run, and now I can upgrade to something made this millennium. So Oppo, whatcha running for AV gear?

when I was slinging electronics at a local chain we pushed onkyo down the throats of anyone who would listen.
Personally I’m running a bose cinemate system (2.1) and am content with my results - but I know that’s just because I don’t have the desire to do a proper 7.2 system

Thanks. I’m certainly not disappointed in the Yamaha, but I’m curious about more modern gear. I got it as a freshman in college, and it’s driven everything from keggers to Wall-E for my kids. 25 years isn’t a bad run for a well traveled mid-spec unit from the early 90's.

I’m the same way. I’ve been running 2.1 with my current system since forever, and i’m in no hurry to upgrade. I use it to drive bookshelves for movies and video games in the living room, and a pair of 2-ways in my workshop. The only thing I really want is the option for simultaineous dual input/dual output, so the the kids can be on the TV upstairs while I run music in the workshop.

The Bose Cinemate is a self contained little set up so no dice for what you’re trying to do. But they can be had for CHEAP on craigslist, just FYI. I set up my parents 7.2 and the brain is a Marantz unit that we’ve been pretty happy with. I’ve slowly upgraded bits and pieces of it for them over the years. They had MAMMOTH bookshelf sized front speakers for years. Bought them some bose speakers (fan boy can you tell?) they’ve got in wall mids and the rears are wall mounted sony speakers. Don’t remember the sub, but it comes together to sound awesome

I have a Pioneer that can do 7.2, 3D, AirPlay, dual zones, and much more. 6 HDMI inputs, etc for less than $400 Canadian on sale 2 years ago.
For the moment, I only run in stereo with a pair of homebuilt Overnight Sensations and I’m pleased.
If you’re looking for OK quality with tons of features for very little cash, the basic Sony units are good.

That’s not bad at all. As I’m looking around, I’m relieved that prices have come way down vs. capabilities compared to what they were the last time I spec’d one. Commoditization for the win.
